Certificate in Public Financial Management (Cert PFM)

Given the pace of change and size of expenditure in the public sector, it’s critical that finance professionals working in the sector have the right skills to deal with the challenges ahead. In response to demand from the public sector, we have developed the Certificate in Public Financial Management to help support and build strong public financial management.
The ACCA Certificate in Public Financial Management will transform the finance capabilities of your organisation. By delivering the public finance knowledge, skills and ethical values needed by organisations like yours, our new Certificate will help you build financial capability and assess your employees.
It introduces the essentials of public financial management. It provides a practical and broad-based knowledge of public financial management, teaching the foundations of public sector finance and ensuring finance professionals in the public sector have a core understanding of what is involved.
Who is it for?
The new Certificate in Public Financial Management will equip finance professionals working in your organisation with stronger and more relevant budgeting, financial reporting and financial management skills.
There are no formal educational requirements to beginning the Cert PFM.
It has been prepared for:
- New entrants to the public sector.
- Staff with practical experience but without formal professional qualifications.
- Professional accountants moving into the public sector from the corporate sector or professional practice.
If you already have a professional accountancy qualification, this qualification can be a valuable source of CPD, offering an opportunity to top up existing competencies with specific knowledge and skills around public financial management.
If you do not hold a professional accountancy qualification, it offers you the opportunity to gain formal recognition of your capabilities.
How it works?
The Cert PFM includes both an online course and an assessment. The online course includes all the study materials you will need.
If you already have a strong grounding in public financial management and want formal recognition of your skills, you can just take the online Cert PFM assessment. Likewise, if you do not need certification, but want extra knowledge in the field, you can choose the course only.
The certificate is assessed by a one hour exam with multiple-choice questions. There are 25 multiple-choice questions based on the syllabus. The candidate is required to answer 13 questions correctly.
The fee covers three attempts to take the assessment. These must be taken within six months of accessing the online course. If candidates don’t pass after three attempts, another registration fee is required to make further attempts.
